{Vocal Summary}While his time as a pop star lasted for less than a year, Ritchie Valens made the most of his tragically short career by injecting the pop music landscape with a hefty dosage of diversity. While he was not necessarily the protoypical rock & roll singer, Valens made good usage of what pipes he had, pulling off harder-hitting numbers with surprising strength. His strong suit was definitely ballads, however, which allowed him to express a warm resonance that his higher charting pop hits never showcased very well.
