{Vocal Summary}The scene is a late, cold october evening. Crystals of ice cling to the air as you move home through the streets after a hard night out trick or treating. You feel a presence on your periphery, stalking the shadows of the suburban atmosphere. Suddenly you hear a sudden noise, a low rumbling like a baritone guitar splits the silence. You freeze, suddenly, a spidery figure emerges from the abyssal road in a billow of black smoke. The figure looms over you and as its face draws closer to yours you catch sight of his thinning hair and cheekbones that could sever diamonds. Suddenly the figure unleashes the least comfortable A4 you've ever heard and the pieces lock together in your head. It's seminal goth godfather Peter Murphy.
Murphy hit the scene as part of influential post-punk figureheads Bauhaus, his silvery baritone and powerful chest voice coupled with his imposing stage presence became a cornerstone of the goth frontman, a figure who most goths owe at least some aspect of their image to. Though a somewhat controversial figure, Murphy has lurked in the shadows of rock music relatively consistently since the 80s and has worked with a decent cast of collaborators over the years including the late Mick Karn.
