Beth Gibbons is the lead singer of British trip hop group Portishead, best famed for songs like "Glory Box" and "Roads". The group received much acclaim for their '90s debut album Dummy, mostly for its crisp production and Beth's unique vocals. Beth is certainly a talented vocalist, although upon listening to her she certainly doesn't strike as a traditional "standout" singer; though distinctive, she seldom strays far outside of her comfort zone, singing mostly in the fourth octave. For the most part, she seems to alternate between utilising a very soft, quivery vocal approach (on "Roads", for example) and a more nasal, biting one (the opening verses of "Glory Box"). However, by far the most interesting part of her voice is her powerful head voice, which Beth frequently uses in live settings with an unusual, almost theremin-like vibrato. Beth certainly isn't an orthodox singer, though her individuality and vocal influence across trip hop music is undeniable.

Questionable notes are any notes of questionable significance. In short, this spoiler acknowledges notes that I am aware exist, but do not want to contribute to the singer's range. These involve (but are not limited to) notes of questionable identity, notes of questionable legitimacy and notes of significantly poor quality.
