Skid Row and Sebastian Bach belong firmly in the 'mixed bag' camp. On the one hand, they did write songs about more serious subject matters than a lot of their peers and had some evocative and quite eloquent lyrics, like these from 'Wasted Time':

But on other occasions, they did descend into nonsense, and the lyrics of 'Sweet Little Sister' are both bad and questionable:

The last one was from a song in a children’s movie

 Those make Young Girl and Don't Stand So Close to Me sound quite virtuous. Don't Stand So Close to Me is one of those songs with some lyrics that have taken on new significance in the light of subsequent events. Here's another, from last year:

Just two lines that I think are really fine, it's not particularly hard to write things like that but you don't often see it, at least I do not.

That verse from Lucy in the sky with diamonds has always been one of my favorite lines Lennon has ever written. I know the lyrics are heavily inspired from Alice in wonderland. So technically they're not overly innovative but I still like them a lot.

I assume they just needed something to rhyme with 'ear', and that was the best they could come up with. If not, it's certainly an odd detail to include for the sake of one line and one line only.
