Yeah, I was curious to hear what his D1 sounded like. His first octave notes in general are great. I still think it works in the style he's doing it, though, and I think it's fair to count that note.

On a side note, I know voice type isn't really a concern on here, and the bass-baritone classification has been dropped on here long ago...but I read that he was a bass-baritone. Would you guys agree with that or is he more of a bass, really?

I've never understood why people considered him more of a bass-baritone than full on bass. He definitely sounded like the lowest type of male voice pretty clearly to me.

I guess one can get that impression because he didn't always speak in such a low, bass pitch...it didn't seem like he had that much trouble sounding a bit lighter. Having that sort of control over his voice obviously doesn't make him less of a bass.

Even when he was speaking "higher", he still had the sort of deep boominess to his voice that I only associate with true basses. There's just no question about him as that in my eyes.

I think it's probably because his upper register is so good, rather than anything lacking at the other end of his range. I've often seen his fourth octave compared to Jim Morrison, and I'd somewhat agree with that comparison. Bass is probably more accurate to his voice on the whole, but he used his highs in a way that bluffed a baritone pretty well.

I think the problem is we're so unaccustomed to hearing a bass in contemporary music that we're forced to user other genres (classical, gospel, choral music etc.) to determine what a bass is. As a result, we tend to think that basses cannot ever show any signs of tonal lightness ever and cannot sing well past E4 or something which is why anyone who's ever been labelled a bass on TRP has spurred on such debate. It's all another reminder why voice type classifications in contemporary music are generally a crapshoot, often the equivalent of trying to fit a circular object into a square hole.

What word are you hearing G♯1 on? We were under the impression that it got that low for a good while because it would make sense with the key of the instruments, but upon closer inspection it turned out that all the suspected G♯1s were actually A1s. That's what I'm still hearing now as well, unless "the weapon of choice is LOVE" could maybe be one.

Personally, I hear "the weapon of choice is LOVE" as another A1 but more fryish than the earlier ones and thusly a bit harder to pitch. It definitely doesn't sound like a G#1 to me though.

Honestly all the A1s sound like G#1s to me. Slowing them down to half speed it seems a few kinda waver between the two pitches, but "IF THE weapon of choice is love" sounds like clear G#1s.

"You'll get there in the end boy..." sounds the closest to G♯1 to me, but I think at most it becomes a flat A1.

Yeah I'm not hearing any of those notes get below A1, even at half speed. The only reason I can think of for why they may waver between two pitches is because of the fryish nature of them, but even with that taken into consideration I'd still say A1 is much more of the main melody note there.

I've reviewed this before, but I always heard it as something around E♭5, but too faint to be considered anything more than questionable. The B4 I added though - I'm pretty sure I had that note listed back when I owned the thread on TRP2, but it must've gotten deleted when Sandblasted took it over on TRP3, as I copied a lot of the original thread from his version of it on there.

Pretty lame falsetto C5 in the "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" clip but yeah I guess it's countable. Only gets up to A4 at that timestamp in "Angry Neurotic Catholics", but there actually is a scream up to C5 shortly before it at 51:38.

Finally listened to the D1. Not sure how you'd determine that to be a D1 in the first place, considering it's breath with some fry rattle on top. Any pitch you might snag out of that would seem completely incidental to me.
