Relatively new to the mainstream rock scene despite being a 30 year+ veteran of the music world, William Duvall has made quite an impression ever since becoming the current lead singer for Alice in Chains. While often employing a much cleaner belting style than the band's original late vocalist Layne Staley, Duvall nonetheless is still able to employ the right amount of grit for the band's style, and can make use of his scarcely used lower range as well to suit the band's "grungy" aesthetic. It's too bad he's not given the chance to shine that often in the band's newer studio material, as the few times he has in AIC (such as in "Last of My Kind" and "Hung on a Hook") and as heard in his other main projects (where he is the only vocalist), he has proven to be quite versatile in terms of dynamic range and has strong capabilities as an incredibly underrated rock belter, we can only hope future material will showcase him more and help him make even more of a mark in the modern rock scene.
