Many of you older folks on TRP will undoubtedly have watched the movie 2003 movie Holes as a child. Well there is a fascinating mystery lying in the iconic theme song which I want to bring to your attention. First of all, here is the theme song: www.youtube.com/watch?v=igQ37tCcjr0It was sung by all the members of the D Tent Boys, with all of them having parts (even Magnet, who sings the "Na Na Na Na Nanananah") except for Squid, who did write a verse (which you can find a demo of on youtube) but he was unable to make it into the studio on the day they recorded the song. Now here is the thing, Zigzag's verse is the deep voiced Johnny Cash'esque opening to the song, famously played during the opening sequence of the movie itself. The thing is that the actor for Zigzag, Max Kasch, was only 17 years old at the time of the film, and the singing voice sounds suspiciously like a 40 year old man. However the main evidence in support of this actually being Zigzag is the promo footage of the song, which shows him mouthing along to the words, at 0:42 here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7apFhfAi0HEI really don't know what to think here, because if we listen to Max Kasch's speaking voice at the time of the film here (13 seconds in): www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAJMdAC31sA it sounds fairly deep. However listening to his singing 15 years later (Example: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JGEw4pyExo) his voice sounds very light and doesn't have a heavy timbre at all. Do you think it is really Kasch singing the iconic Holes song intro, or do you think the producers replaced him with another singer after hearing his recorded verse?
