A few years ago when I was starting to listen to metal I discovered Angra, a band that was my favorite for a long time. I wanted to discuss which was the best vocalist in your opinion and their best album.


Best vocalist- Andre Matos: I was a fan of Edu Falaschi for many years until I defend the indefensible, but after a long time I decided to accept that he always had problems live and could not do what he did so beautiful in study. Matos did his homework live. Lione on the other hand, does that horrible falsetto killing any song of the first era.

Best album- Temple of Shadows: It's a very complete album, full of emotions that I can listen to several times without getting tired unlike recent work with Lione.

Even as a huge Angra fan, I've never been 100% able to endorse any of their singers as a favorite. Undoubtedly my favorite album vocally is Rebirth, where Edu Falaschi is a total powerhouse (and at that time was great live as well), but I found he got a bit more awkward sounding over time. Andre had the most consistent level of chops, but he tended to sound a bit too thin for my personal tastes a lot of the time. Fabio is pretty fun but I like him a lot more when singing in Italian because I find his diction a bit distracting.

My favorite album is hard to say because they're very consistent (I like all of their albums to some extent), but I'll go with Aurora Consurgens as my nostalgic favorite. Very underrated selection of songs there and they do a good job of incorporating more modern progressive metal characteristics into their usual sound on it.

How strange that you choose the Aurora Consurgens, many people consider it the worst.

Fantastic band in each iteration imo
My fav vocalist of Angra is Matos - the stuff he did at his peak there are incredible and I think his tone and style of singing fits best with them.
Favorite album is a a hard one to pick, I really can't decide. Might end up being between Holy Land and Temple of Shadows.
I would say that even tho Lione doesn't really fit the band (especially their older stuff), their albums with him are still pretty neat, especially OMNI...can't wait to see what they come up with for the next one.

well, im extremely biased towards lione as my favorite singer (not only in angra but one of my favourites period) but i have to agree with temple of shadows being a masterpiece and their best album overall. the lyrics, the story it tells, hansi kursch as a guest for fucks sake! also, the shadow hunter is one of the best songs of all power metal, it has everything.
