Joey Batey (1 Jan 1989-)
Vocal Range: F2 - B4
Associated Acts: The Amazing Devil (2015 - present)
{Vocal Summary}While he may be best known as Jaskier in Netflix's adaptation of the Witcher, British singer/actor Joey Batey was living the life of a modern-day medieval bard well before his casting. With his band The Amazing Devil, he, along with co-vocalist Madeleine Hyland, performs a style of highly dramatic alt-folk that ranges from soft, intimate ballads to explosive, string-laden epics, most of which are built on his and Hyland's tight vocal harmonies. Though Batey is a fairly high-placed singer capable of pulling off some very powerful belts in the upper fourth octave, he knows his money notes in that area and doesn't venture too far beyond them, preferring to leave any particularly high notes to Hyland and seldom impressing with his falsetto register. Interestingly, this reticence does not extend to his lows; while he is, again, probably a tenor of some sort, he often delves down into the second octave, even as his tone in that register becomes more and more whispery. This does, however, lend itself quite well to the massive dynamic shifts so often found in his music, with soft, airy lows building to loud, climactic belting. Don't be deceived by the relatively small on-paper range: Batey is a great vocalist capable of bringing tales to life in the way only the best bards can.
