Ross Jennings is the vocalist for the british progressive metal bands Haken and Novena. A very light voice, with a very high range-oriented style, usually done via a very light head voice style, but he's also capable of putting a lot of weight on his voice and adding some really cool grit as well. Ross often creates some very elaborate vocal arrangements drawing influence ranging from the weird conterpoint madness of Gentle Giant to mellow gregorian chant esque choirs.

{Novena - Corazón}

Hey guys, I updated the thread with songs from the new Novena album (which I must say it's probably his best yet vocally-wise) but there's still a part of this song that has been driving me insane. The parts are 1:45-2:24 and 3:23-3:40 (even with no additional instrumentation in case of the second part, it's still too confusing). Except for the spanish-language female vocals during the second timestamp, I think all the voices are done by Ross (even those ultra darkened lows aren't something completely unheard by him tbh). The lowest part seems to imply E2s at various points (1:53, 2:02, 2:12, 2:21 and then 3:29 and 3:38) but I'm having a really hard time hearing them. The notes are either too buried in the mix or he's using a trick he already used in other songs (like the part of "Host" with the F#2): while he is following a melody one octave lower for the most part, he leaves certain words without the doubled octave, or replaces them with notes one octave higher (I keep hearing E3s on those parts, specially during the a capella part). I'm almost certain they're doubletracked or something though.

BTW, there's a clapping solo at 4:40. Can you outprog that?

Hey guys, long time no see. In addition to the Fauna album, there are a bunch of other releases by Ross (Novena, Solo, his project with Neal Morse and Nick Di Virgilio, a country project I found out he sings in I forget ts name) I need to check out and I will do so as soon as I'm able to.

Oh btw, I don't think the E2s in Corazón are his voice. The tone are believable as his since he tends to darken his lows, but I found out that both Harrisson White and Gareth Mason (before transitioning into Gaia Mason) did backing vocals on the song as best seen on this live version. The E2 part is panned to the right, and I think it's Harrison singing it (since he does the lowest harmony on this live version of "The Tyrant".
