{Vocal Summary}
Technical death metal is a chaotic genre therefore the vocals themselves will match the overall mood of it. However, some vocalists can go a different route while still staying in the genre's tropes. Georgia native, Jason Wisdom of the celestial metal band, Becoming The Archetype is one of death metal’s most ambitious vocalists. Known for his lion-like growls and roars, his vocal presence is one that does warrant a listener’s attention. As a whole, Wisdom is a baritone who never delved into anything but growling in most of his early career however around their fourth album in the band he began to slightly use his melodic vocals a lot more and then fully explored them in his guitar-absent industrial project, Death Therapy. His voice can sometimes vary from sounding like a Gregorian chant to the typical moody vocals usually found in like industrial or even nu metal. His high register at first was a bit irregular at first mostly singing in bizarre time signatures but got better at it with the advancing of his career being able to belt all the way to the beginning of the fifth octave. His lower register is also very well-adjusted which is rare for a death metal vocalist as again has moments of sounding like an angst-filled alternative metal singer to a church choir bass. He also has moments of using the “attitude” fry when the tone of the song gets more peculiar or menacing. Wisdom to many would sound like a monster singing worship songs for first-listeners but that only adds to the uniqueness of his voice and talents.
