Summary:

As the guitarist for arguably one of the most famous bands in recent history, Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Frusciante has had an enormous effect on millions of people around the globe for decades. He has become known as a musical legend, and with good reason. His signature guitar playing as well as his distinctive singing have reached many, through his time in the Chili Peppers to his solo work and beyond. Edit: Also maybe just me, but if we're counting that Smile Is a Rifle thing, I think we count the A6. Clearly intended to be hit and though its brief he hits it pretty clearly for a moment, the F#6 feels a lot less controlled to me

Edit 2: Also I think all the low harmonies in One Way Traffic are Anthony, though I could be missing something really obscure. And I'm not getting a C#5 on Nerve Flip at all, I hear a C#4 and G#4 overlapping and maybe causing a weird overtone? (And if that gets removed remember to include the falsetto C5)

For One Way Traffic, it says Frusciante does backing vocals on it. Kiedis isn't created for any backing vocals on the album.

Particularly in light of how the E2 is executed in Golden Hair. Very similar in terms of how he's compressing, and the tone generally (though, obviously quality might be getting in the way there). 

I just cannot see how, other than pure scepticism, anyone thinks that's pitch-shifted.

I guess this is a controversial opinion but here's another vote for "clearly pitch shifted". And the reason it sounds the same all the way through is because it's all clearly pitch shifted. The entire vocal. Not sure why that would be unthinkable

Not only is it deep notes, but the whole vocal has a dark tone, which he has never displayed before or after. Sure you can darken your tone, but when literally the entire vocal has a completely different timbre to your normal voice, it's suspicious.

Oh and like was just said, it literally just sounds like what happens when you pitch down vocals. This is like hearing a chipmunk pitch-up and reading about people saying "well what about it makes it sound pitch shifted?"

When I transpose that D2 line up to F or F# I think the timbre sounds more like the rest of his singing.

A simple pitch shift of only a semitone has a tendency to change the timbre perceptibly. The clip shifted up a semitone mentioned in the Sinatra thread makes him sound more like a tenor, even though he's not singing particularly high, just up to F4 or so. The human voice doesn't simply move the whole spectrum up like a simple pitch shift does. 
If someone comes up with an AI pitch shift tool that mimics the way that the human voice moves up and down, then things are going to get muddy.

The funny thing is that when I first heard the initial D2, I thought for a moment that it might be natural, and was pretty impressed by the apparent resonance of it. However, what gave away the pitch-shift to me was actually the rest of the singing - the mid and upper second octave parts sound way too deep for it to be believable as John's natural voice in that range.

It is not pitch-shifted. And without literally any evidence at all (given it sounds the same as all his lower vocals sound, equally so with the higher parts) this is just stupid. Noting, again, that it has the exact same quality as the *live* E2, what are we even doing here?

This is directed fairly squarely at the take directly above this. It just clearly is not the case. His vocals sound normal through the whole track.

It, in fact, does not. Especially (and this is e-special) as compared to the actual track. The pitch-up, sounds... wait for this guys... pitch shifted. Fancy that!!

Ok my current take is that I think it's pitch shifted up two semitones, and the audible C#2 on "I am all of me", which is an Eb2 after shifting, is intentional and should be counted. Thanks both Steingrim and jaredletoisbackagain for the transpositions!

tbh as a general rule I don't really think we should try to count notes via reverse-pitch shift, just because it can be dubious as to whether we're actually shifting it back by the right amount. We've discussed a similar case with the "Bring Back That Leroy Brown" pitch-shifted C2 in the Freddie Mercury thread, which we suspect is either an F2 or E2 at its natural pitch. However, it's not quite infallible enough as either for me to feel confident with it going in the main thread.
