Dimash: Phelps: 6 Octave Wonder 3 Octave Wonder Range is C2-D8 Range is E2-G5 Has hit the 8th octave Hasn't hit the 8th octave This probably proves a point Singing is an art, not a sport. It's not about hitting notes it is about how you hit them to evoke emotion. Also, any note over E6 is irrelevant. When you're that high nobody cares or can tell the difference anymore and once a male get to the 7th octave, the sound is as repulsive as nails on a chalkboard. From C3-D5 where 90% of the singing is done, David Phelps has better resonance, an actual natural rolling vibrato produced through perfect air flow pressure, better support and much better tone & a unified well blended voice. As for Dimash: - His vibrato needs work. It is not natural. he vibrates each pulse with his core so it is often inconsistent.
- Also, he does not have a well developed unified voice. He uses Bel Canto up to about C#5 (which makes his voice sound bigger than it is & is not the best way to convey emotion as it loses the conversational aspect of pop singing and make him sound pompous) then switches to a more rock approach with this thin edgy nasal placement with heavy twang that is NOT PLEASING starting around D5. The contrast is jarring and an acquired taste.
- The 1 thing I'll give to Dimash is that he has the most beautiful head voice of any male artist out there: tone & resonance.

It's as disturbing as Kpop fans' antics. So I had to nip it in the bud right away.

Eh, that head voice is only well produced when straight toned. When he adds vibrato it becomes very constricted. And I would not consider what Dimash is doing as Bel canto, more of an imitation of it. And I would say he always sounds smaller than he could and would had he trained properly.

That's a pretty good example of a belted F5 versus a mixed F5 from a super high tenor. One is pretty strained, the other seems almost effortless. The second one sounds much more pleasant, tbh.

Yeah, he's reaching hard for that F5, at least on the day. The Guy with the Penrod that he's singing along with has managed a better belted F5 (see his vocal range video on youtube). Dave Phelps has a better F#2 in chest voice. Which for both singers is an exercise in being ridiculous. I like Phelps' bolded Eb5. It has that "tenor goes for a high C" quality that good high belts have. There's definitely a purpose to singing up in full voice.

There is an interview where David said he trained as a Rossini/leggero tenor and he had a passaggio of G#4/A4, a tenorino. Can confirm. Also gonna redo this thread later this year. Top 10 statements that have aged poorly:

Just unfortunately tons of performances in my playlist went down cause of Phelps striking the channels down. A lot of people would upload his DVD concerts on YouTube prior (fan channels). Most of these channels were largely inactive these days as they are pretty old. They also uploaded tons of performances from concerts and what's not... but considering they are inactive, when striked they did not respond to the takedown notice... and the channels simply disappeared along with thousands of clips.
