Christopher Alvin Stapleton (15 April 1978)
Years Active: 2001 - present
Member Of: The SteelDrivers, The Jompson Brothers
Vocal Range: B♭2 - E5
{Vocal Summary}
Chris Stapleton is quite an interesting case within the modern country scene; though he's been musically active since the early 2000s in a couple of smaller bands, he didn't quite come into his own until he went solo in the 2010s. The sound he brings to the table is familiar yet distinct from those of many of his contemporaries, blending that classic country sound with some serious soul influences to create an incredibly compelling catalog. Chris has definitely found his niche within the country space, and only seems to be getting better and better as he further develops his sound.
Much of Chris's sound can be attributed to his voice, which only serves to illustrate his unique blend of influences, as it's a perfect combination of that gravelly country timbre and powerful, impassioned soul vocals. He's most frequently described as having a tenor range, most likely owing to the soul-influenced focus on high, powerful belts in his songs, though his timbre is somewhat lower than one would expect from this kind of description. For the most part, his most notable passages speak for themselves; hearing him belt out those choruses is an experience that's hard to replicate anywhere else within the genre. His low range could be described as underexplored, as he definitely sounds like someone who can go lower than what this thread would indicate, but perhaps this is a deliberate choice to maintain consistency and tastefulness. In any case, what he does provide is certainly impressive enough in its own right.
