{Background & Vocal Summary:}Carly Rae Jepsen is a Canadian singer-songwriter and actress. Before she was signed, she released an independent EP titled "Dear You" in 2004. In 2007, she auditioned for "Canadian Idol" where she ended up placing third on the show. Following this, she was signed to "MapleMusic Recordings" after her demo was heard by a manager there. She released her debut album titled "Tug of War" in 2008 before she soon left the label and was signed to "604 Records". In 2012, she rose to worldwide fame following the release of her most famous single "Call Me Maybe". The song was incredibly successful and she soon released an EP titled "Curiosity" in 2012. Her album "Kiss" was soon released later in the year to positive reviews. After the album's release she took a few years to finish her next album to make sure it was of good equality. During this time she starred in a Broadway production of "Cinderella". Eventually the album titled "Emotion" was released in 2015 to very positive reviews although it was less successful compared to her previous album. A year later she released "Emotion: Side B" to positive reviews. Aside from this, she starred in a production of "Grease", made appearances on several songs, released a song titled "Cut to the Feeling" for a movie she's starring in, etc.
Carly is a soprano with a light and sweet voice. As expected for a soprano, her lower register is easily the weakest point of her voice but it can be strong occasionally and she uses it often ("Heavy Lifting", "You're Heart is a Muscle", "Sunshine On My Shoulders"). Strangely, Carly doesn't like to belt in her upper extremes too often but notes are still strong and seem easy enough for her ("I Really Like You", "Cut to the Feeling", "Tonight I'm Getting Over You"). Accompanied with a sweet falsetto that compliments her light voice ("When I Needed You", "Just a Step Away"). Carly can be inconsistent live, especially in her early career as shown by her Canadian Idol performances (such as "Breathe (2 AM)") but has improved greatly since then. Overall Carly is an average vocalist but her voice fits her style of music well.
