Nakamura Miku (中村未来) (13 Sept 1987 - )
Vocal Range: D3 - B5
Associated Acts: Cö shu Nie (2011 - present)
{Vocal Summary}As the singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist behind Osaka alternative/math rock group Cö shu Nie, Miku Nakamura is the primary driving force behind the band's ever-shifting sound. Of her many talents, it is perhaps her ability as a vocalist that is most distinctive. A natural soprano, her feather-light tone can seamlessly shift from strident mix to soft falsetto and back again. Her overall vocal agility is excellent, as she often negotiates melodies that seldom stay in one register for long while leaping between notes in odd intervals, perfect for the band's more chaotic songs. Her consistency in live performances is also notable, as she makes even her harder vocal lines sound almost exactly as they did in the studio. Beyond simply showing off, however, she also has a lovely tone for softer ballads, contrasting a soft, breathy lower register with clear, crystalline high notes to great effect. In addition, she is adept at layering her vocals together, sometimes cutting and sampling bits of her own voice into a signature sort of sound collage. While her unique sound and style may be a bit of an acquired taste to some, there is no denying that Nakamura is an extremely talented singer and musician with a sound all her own.
