Hard rockers Band-Maid have become known for delivering a significantly heavier sound than one might expect from five Japanese girls in maid outfits, and central to that sound is the powerful mezzo-soprano belt of lead vocalist Saiki Atsumi. Though she was largely relegated to her "sweet" upper register in the band's poppier early material, her tone swiftly deepened as their songs moved into the hard rock/metal arena, expanding her lows and adding more grit to her highs. Her lower third octave passages (whether lead or backing) are solid and sustained, in keeping with her naturally low speaking voice, though they lack the weight of a true contralto. And though she frequently pushes her chest voice to its limit in the lower fifth octave, the upper extremes of her head voice are largely unexplored, as most of Band-Maid's higher harmony parts are handled by guitarist Miku Kobato. A solid singer who likely still has her best performances ahead of her.
