Jackson Carey Frank (2 March 1943 - 3 March 1999)
Vocal Range: E♭2 - G4
{Vocal Summary}Jackson C. Frank's story is one of the most somber, depressing tales in popular music history, and that somberness emanates in his sparse collection of releases. A folk guitarist with a particularly strong blues inspiration, Frank's melancholy songs would inspire the likes of Nick Drake after him. For as much as the focus was on his guitar playing, Frank's voice conveyed its own sort of expressiveness, sounding very real while occasionally demonstrating a bit more power and technical prowess than one might expect. His voice would grow ragged in his later years, and the last recordings of Frank before his death show a man who has been beaten down by life constantly and is looking for just the slightest scrap of peace. Here's hoping he found it.
