Georgia Train
Vocal Range: B♭2 - F♯6
Member Of: Bitter Ruin (2007-2015?)
{Vocal Summary}Best known as the driving force behind dramatic dark cabaret duo Bitter Ruin, British singer-songwriter Georgia Train is quite possibly one of the most talented vocalists in the scene. With her agile, sometimes chirpy soprano and clarity of tone, there is a clear Kate Bush influence to her softer moments. However, she is also capable of pulling out a searingly powerful and expansive high belting register that is all her own. This, combined with her increasingly full-sounding lows over the years, has made her a versatile talent able to handle a wide variety of genres and moods.
Perhaps the best overall descriptor of Train's voice, then, is "dramatic"- from the fragile and childlike to the smoky and seductive to the roaring and furious, every performance of hers is imbued with a massive (some would say excessive) quantity of character and emotionality. Her vocals have an undeniably theatrical quality to them, with explosive dynamic shifts and well-deployed vibrato aplenty, and much of her vocal chemistry with Bitter Ruin cowriter Ben Richards comes down to their ability to portray exaggerated characters in various forms of conflict. A brilliant singer and writer who deserves to be better known.
