Vocal Range: B♭2 - F♯5
Associated Acts: Blacklit Canopy (2013-2016), Sleep Token (2016-present)
{Vocal Summary}The vocalist and primary songwriter of masked British metal/indie-pop/prog/R&B/etc. band Sleep Token, Vessel I (generally referred to as simply Vessel) has made quite a name for himself as a powerful, versatile vocalist. He has three distinct vocal approaches, the first and most prominent of which being his smooth, mid-range chest register. Drawing heavily from R&B and indie music and focusing more on emotionality and vibrato than big high belting, his tone is notable in that it sounds "deep" and full without ever actually going particularly low, drawing far more comparisons to Hozier and Dan Smith of Bastille than the average metal singer generally receives. Second is his well-used head voice, which ranges from a soft, ethereal falsetto to a powerfully keening, metallic mix and often drives the band's soaring climaxes home. Finally there are his harsh vocals, which are delivered in a guttural, distorted scream that hasn't tended to show up very often (with some recent exceptions such as Vore), but does an excellent job of driving home Sleep Token's heaviest climaxes. On the whole, an excellent singer who, like his band, refuses to stay within the lines of any established genre or style.
