Noriaki Hitomi (01.10.1957 - )
Associated Acts: Vow Wow
Vocal Range: D3 - B5
{Vocal Summary}Genki Hitomi is a powerhouse, man. An absolute tungsten anvil of a singer. He takes a lot of influence from early hard rock vocalists like Robert Plant, but the end result is closer to someone like Graham Bonnet. Just a constant barrage of heavy, impossibly chesty high notes. The only singer I know of that even comes close to him is Minoru Niihara from Loudness, who sounds quite similar to Genki. And just like Minoru, Genki never uses his low range. He doesn't even use his mid-range, really. It's all high notes all the time. This is the kind of habit that could easily ruin the chops of even the most technically gifted metal singer.
However, in 1990, Genki would retire as a working musician, instead choosing to work as an English teacher in Japan. He would end up doing some random session work here and there afterwards (to this day, Genki remains the only singer to be range-expanded by a licensed racing game for the fucking Sega Naomi), but for the most part, this was the end of his recording career. This also means that his voice is actually quite well preserved, and he remains a vocal menace even well into his 60s.
