{Vocal Summary}
Usually the replacement of a singer in a well-known band can be tough especially when the vocalist before had such a unique voice that made the band stand out among the rest. That is something that Texas native, Stephen Keech may have had to face when taking the spot of the main vocalist of the renowned Christian metalcore, Haste The Day right after their original vocalist Jimmy Ryan left. With Jimmy Ryan he was well-known for his screams that sounded raspy and more like shrieks that sounded more “metal” than your typical metalcore screamer with such a distortion that can be more suited in other extreme genres like black or death metal. Keech, in contrast to Ryan, has a lower gruff scream and more use of death growling and is said to sound more of an accessible sound of what a metalcore band should stereotypically sound like. That is not to say that Keech isn’t unique in his own right. Keech, other than scream, also sings in a strong tenor in contrast to most of the backing vocalists in the band who are mostly baritone which gave the band an even bigger emphasis on more complex melodies as they went. Keech’s voice masters many textures and moods when it comes to going for more metal singing to indie folk twang and his screaming all delivered with a great amount of passion. Keech managed to make the impossible task of replacing an old beloved singer and managed to get fans that prefer his era over Ryan but no matter what whether it is Keech or Ryan both will have cemented themselves as one of the most intense vocalists in Christian metalcore.
