Adam Nyerere Bahner (21 May, 1982)
Vocal Type: Bahner-tone
Chocolate Rainge: G♯1-G5{Vocal Summary}The man. The myth. The meme.
Initally, Tay's vocals weren't that strong. They were fine enough, sure, anyone born before 9/11 can probably recall that booming baritone voice from the Nyan Cat era of YouTube like it was yesterday. But he tended to rely on his low range in a more Morgan Freeman-y way, basically the few times he utilised his lower register was spoken word lyrics. I thought this would make the thread painful to get through, as the thought of Tay having not a single 1st octave note that I didn't have to mark as italic was a real ball-breaker to me. Then, everything changed whenthe fire nation attacked Tay started doing a number of covers for a good few years. He sung a lot of songs that you would expect from a guy of his vocal placement. Sixteen Tons, You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch, Hellfire and the like. But the REALLY exciting stuff... was his covers of pop songs. No, seriously. Occasionally, he would take a pop song... and sing it as low as he could. This was literally a godsend for me, as this is all I ever wanted from this guy... for him to use the full extent of his low range and boy, did he use it well. This cover song era of Tay is by far my favourite era of Tay Zonday solely for this reason alone, but it also marked a lot of vocal development for Tay. He's not only hitting lows, he's hitting some goooood lows. It even saw a development in his higher register, as he started getting a lot more stronger around the upper 4th octave. Let me put it this way, I don't think "Chocolate Rain" era Tay would've been able to pull off a bold C5. As the incredible Tay Zonday cover renaissance era came to a close, Tay shifted back to original music. There's not much to touch on in this era... as Tay's upload schedule has been like, maybe 2 videos in the past 3 years. But he did pull off a few bolds and weirdly... strayed away from a lot of low notes. Seriously, you'd be hardpressed to find an instance of Tay going below like, G2 post-2016. This journey through the discography of a very clear one hit wonder has been honestly kind of incredible, I didn't think I would have as much respect for this guy as a singer, let alone a musician and composer. Some of this guy's original work is seriously good, check out "Demons on the Dance Floor" and "Someday".
...also, if you want a way to tell that Tay has improved markedly vocal-wise, he no longer has to move away from the mic to breathe.
