Known for his work with Icelandic art-prog group Agent Fresco as well as his collaborations with such composers as Yoko Kanno and Olafur Arnalds, the soft, crystalline tenor of Arnór Dan has made its way into a wide variety of excellent music. Though his best asset is arguably his achingly gorgeous falsetto and its feeling of fragile vulnerability, he can go for power as well, whether it be with his comfortable mix up to the edge of the fifth octave or with his shockingly violent screams that, though inhaled and not part of his range proper, lend his otherwise-angelic vocals a vicious, seldom-seen dark side. Lows are in short supply, as one would expect for someone this relatively high-placed, though his spoken word passages and occasional sung notes into the second octave show that they aren't entirely nonexistent. An excellent, distinctive singer, and I'm excited to hear what direction his voice takes on Agent Fresco's new material.
