{Vocal Analysis}Judging from the very bright timbre of his vocals, his lacklustre lower register when compared to other regions of his voice and the relative ease with which he has been able to belt into the fifth octave since even the very early stages of his career, Sammet's tessitura seems most likely to be high even for a natural tenor. Whilst some have suggested that his voice has deepened with age, I would personally attribute this more to his gradual change in stylistic approach, pulling more chest into his upper register and taking a little more interest in his lower register. Naturally, as a heavy metal/power metal vocalist, Sammet has been best known throughout his career for his belting register, being most readily compared to Bruce Dickinson, Michael Kiske or even Geoff Tate. Sammet was already a capable belter by the time of Edguy's first official album in 1997, but really came into his vocal peak around the early to mid 2000s, developing a clean, vibrato-laden mix that saw him frequently scale up to E♭5-E5 territory and even manage some mixed notes as high as F♯5. Since about 2008, his approach has changed, pulling more chest into his mix and opting for a more rock-orientated, slightly grittier style which by and large peaks around the upper fourth and early fifth octave, though he has pushed higher on occasion and retains the agility of a well-blended mix. Sammet has also been known for his high 'wailing' head voice/'reinforced falsetto', again quite comparable to Bruce Dickinson, particularly in the earlier stages of his career, where he showed the capability to sustain notes up to A5, even making it up to a backing vocal C6 in 2001. He has demonstrated this considerably less since the late 2000s, but still pulls out the occasional 'scream' both in studio and live. Sammet's live performances in general also were at their best around the early-to-mid 2000s, with him experiencing a rougher patch in the early 2010s, but more recent performances have seen more of a return to form, as well as pushing his boundaries again a little more in studio, with even an impressive belted F5 on 2019's 'Ghost In the Moon'. Sammet's mid-range retains a very light tone, and his lower register remains an underused/underdeveloped feature of his voice- it's common for whole albums not to go below D3, and in general his lows become pretty breathy below C3, though he has managed to reach notes down to G♯2 in studio and even live on occasion. Overall, Sammet remains a talented vocalist and performer, and one of the central figures of heavy metal in the 21st century.

{Bio/Known For}Tobias Sammet grew up in the German city of Fulda, attending school alongside future bandmates Jens Ludwig, Dominik Storch and Dirk Sauer. The four formed the heavy metal band Edguy in 1992 (the name being a nickname given to their school maths teacher), influenced by bands such as Helloween, Iron Maiden and Queen. After two demo tapes and an unofficial self-released album, Sammet and Edguy released their first official album in 1997, and have released nine subsequent studio albums with the most recent being 2014's Space Police: Defenders of the Crown. Beginning in 2001, Sammet also founded the rock/metal opera supergroup Avantasia, a project initially intended as a one-off which produced a two-part 'metal opera' from 2001-02 featuring other artists such as Michael Kiske, Timo Tolkki and Kai Hansen alongside some of Sammet's Edguy bandmates. Sammet restarted the project in 2006, and since 2008 the group has become his primary output in terms of studio releases, with six subsequent albums including the most recent, Moonglow, in 2019, with frequent supporting vocalists down the years including Michael Kiske, Jørn Lande and Bob Catley, and other guests including Alice Cooper, Geoff Tate and Russell Gilbrook. Since the mid-2000s, Sammet has most notably worked closely with guitarist and producer Sascha Paeth with both Avantasia and Edguy. Initially playing bass for Edguy on their demo releases and first two official albums, Sammet has also contributed with bass for Avantasia, and has been the primary keyboard player for both Avantasia and Edguy since their inceptions. His other musical ventures include guest vocals on the 2017 Ayreon album The Source.

Sounds like whoever's singing the lower harmony here hits a solid B♭2, but it's hard to tell whether it's Rob or Tobias on that part. Which one of them do you think would be more likely to take the lower harmony? They're both pretty highsy highsians, so I'm unsure.

Kind of hard to tell but I would guess Rob Rock. Tobias doesn't seem to enter the second octave if he can help it, lol. If it is him, that's probably the best note in that territory I've heard him hit.

With falsetokaiba 's permission, I just notewatched the entire new Avantasia album and updated the thread accordingly. I think I mostly did a good job of sorting out whose voice was singing what parts on the various songs, but there were a couple that I found myself second guessing a little bit because I was less familiar with the guest vocalist's voice, like Bob Catley for instance.

Anyway, Sammet spans a nice C3-G5 in lead vocals on this album, or at least I guess I would count the G5s as lead, though they're done in a harmony. It also sounds like there may be some faint A2s in the backing vocals during one of his parts in this song? Considering that he's singing lead during that section, I'm guessing the backing vocals are him and not Geoff Tate.

I think I'm hearing some very buried A2s on "FROM THE well or harmony - ripped apart" and "AS WE set out on a journey fated from the start". Also sounds like some backing D3s at 3:21, though once again they're similarly faint.

Both the A2s and the D3s sound legit to me. The second one of the A2s you mentioned is more audible, though both are a bit faint. Doesn't shock me though, because Sammet doesn't have a very hefty lower register so I think it's just an example of him getting a lot quieter on that note compared to the few that come after it.

Also, why does the OP not list the range for the original Savage Poetry? I know it's acknowledged next to the re-recording, but I don't really see a reason not to list the range spanned on the original as well.
