Once a fresh-faced alternative to the increasingly squandered goodwill for Amy Winehouse, after scoring international fame with late-noughties hits "Mercy" and "Well, Well, Well", Duffy's presence in the billboards was odd to begin with, due to her high voice and bleating vibrato that more often than not would be an acquired taste. Despite being another talent show winner signed up to a big label, Duffy remains one of the most unique voices ever to come out of the heyday of that scene; the undeniably British melancholy of Rockferry was not something you stumbled across in the Top 100 often, but for a while it seemed that Duffy would be the one to subvert that expectation. Of course, that did not happen, but one can only hope for another breakthrough if she wishes to record once more, as despite how fun the pop scene tends to be, uniquely soulful voices like Duffy's are always sorely missed when absent from the limelight.
