A singer, a songwriter and a pure English treasure. Kate Bush defied musical expectations throughout her career by bringing quirky into the mainstream, signified best in her spellbinding debut single "Wuthering Heights". Kate has never attempted to be a commercially successful artist, however; she never ceased to explore new musical ideas, leading to albums like The Dreaming receiving somewhat polarised critical reception. Despite this (or perhaps because of it), she commands a loyal army of fans, providing inspiration to an eclectic array of musicians to this day.
Upon listening to Kate's earlier albums, you'd immediately pick up on how her unique her voice is. In her youth, her tone was noticeably light, with Kate frequently singing in her flexible head voice. Her voice was naturally a fairly high one placement-wise, though throughout the '80s, a shift can be noted in Kate's vocal approach; seemingly more comfortable in her chest voice, Kate's lower register and belting really grew in confidence here, with 1985's Hounds of Love showcasing the two especially well. Though her voice has lowered somewhat over the years, her vocal individuality remains consistent.
