Along with names like Stevie Nicks and Janis Joplin, Grace Slick is looked up to as a goddess in rock and roll. She became known in the '60s for her stint in Jefferson Airplane, her idiosyncratic songwriting and bold voice now leading to some of Airplane's most iconic songs.
Though not a singer renowned for her technique, Grace's vocal performances have become some of rock music's most memorable because of how much energy she put into them. Her early discography placed more emphasis on her upper chest register, showcasing how potent a belter she was in songs like "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit", though her lower register is not to be overlooked - while somewhat neglected across her career (likely as a result of her being the sole female voice in the band), songs like "Triad" have demonstrated Grace's ability to sing very slick lower notes. Most may write off Grace's musical legacy as limited to her songwriting and image, but no one else could perform her songs with as much conviction as she could.
{A Few Examples of Her Voice}
A nice showcase of her performance style - some of the most satisfying low notes I've ever heard.
This is how you do a crescendo.
