Cassandra Wei
Years Active: 2011 - present
Associated Acts: Mili (2012 - present), AWAAWA (2023 - present)
Vocal Range: C♯3 - C6
{Vocal Summary}
A Canadian singer and songwriter best known as the vocalist for genre-blending Japanese group Mili, Cassie "Momocashew" Wei's unique voice has played a major part in the band's cult popularity. A naturally high-placed singer, her main vocal mode (particularly in their early material) adopts a very light tone that tends to walk the line between angelic and cloying. However, she is also capable of changing things up in this high range when it suits her, having developed a solid belting register and a surprisingly decent operatic vibrato in recent years. Her lower register is also relatively well-used for a soprano, with most songs making it down to the mid-third octave at least, and she often layers it with her higher vocals to create everything from subtle backing harmonies to one-woman duets and choirs. Combine that with her ability to sing in five languages (English, Japanese, Chinese, French, and a Latin-inspired conlang of her own devising) and her penchant for whimsical yet dark lyrics, and you have a vocalist whose quirks fit perfectly into Mili's idiosyncratic style.
