That first wail you linked tops at F5. Oh ok, it's that little jump up in the middle of it?

Was Chris a baritone or a low tenor ? The consensus seems to be some sort of baritone who could pull up the full weight of his voice up to F5 His Bb2s and A2s sound okay but some high tenors can manage that much, Robert Plant for instance.

I got this shirt when I saw Soundgarden live back in 2011, but it was ripped to pieces from wearing it too much. So a few weeks ago I decided to make a frame for it
RIP

It's not countable, but it sounds like it gets down to F#1. It's interesting to consider how much lower he could have sung had he worked on that part of his vocals, so thanks for sharing. edit: Whoops.. probably an F#2 actually, but I don't hear any C2, except for that one that's 100% obviously someone else's voice.

Bold notes from A2-G#5? Christ, how is a human being capable of that?
P.S. The length of that D5 list breaks my brain.

E♭5 (may be considered worthy of boldmarking, in my opinion) seconded.

E♭5 (may be considered worthy of boldmarking, in my opinion) seconded. I agree. It's a great note and showcases well what he still was capable of.

If i'm not mistaken the tape speed for "Black Hole Sun" is running slightly too fast (it was recorded in G, but sounds between G and Ab), so the notes should be D3, A4, and C5.

That A5 in Follow My Way definitely sounds like Chris Cornell to me.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VyrxIijQK8 3:52 I could be wrong but I think Cornell goes up to G#5 in this performance of Smokestack Lighting. Also you better add that high note in "You don't know nothing about love." Or there will be consequences.

Not sure i'd count that, to me it seems like he was going for G5s and overshot them.

Underrated Chris Cornell cover number 527. Some nice A4's in this one.

Starting at 1:50:45, Chris makes sounds that could only come out of an overworked demon who had too much to drink, not sure if any of it is countable but I found this bit kinda neat and it might add to his low noteography.

Neither had an unusual or ‘freak’ voice. In fact Freddie’s low range wasn’t even that good... It was alright but nothing out of ordinary. I do find it weird that people have these debates about voices like these which aren’t even necessarily ‘freak’ voices yet no one ever argues about actual freak voices like Lorraine Stancil, Mary Martin, Melonie Daniels, Alex Newell etc. And technically speaking the term ‘chesty mix’ would be incorrect due to the mix term referring to the M2 laryngeal vibratory mechanism use, and chest M1. You cannot use two LVMs at once. And neither would know their passaggi as to truly know your passaggi you must at very least know how to properly do voce chiusa. Passaggi aren’t your ‘breaks’. That being said, Chris is a tenor to me and I don’t hear how someone could mistake him for a real baritone. A manufactured baritone (Johnny Mathis, Tony Bennett etc.) sure, but not a natural baritone. Chris is for sure a baritone. How do I know? I am a bass-baritone and I have a similar tone and vocal weight to his, and the same type of high note tessitura: vocaroo.com/1i5VL7P9ZXg7With all due respect man, you don't sound like a bass-baritone. I agree with Kaji, you sound like, at the lowest, perhaps a high baritone.

Hah, alright, i know, but quite the contrary though, it's necessary & useful for this to be used here as an explanation of what's already been discussed for the future You would think that might actually work, but trust me - I will come back and quote this post as soon as something like this happens here again in the future. I guarantee you that the next person to bring it up will not have bothered to read what was already discussed and just send it into another cycle of the same bullshit. AND SO I WAS PROVEN RIGHT
