{Vocal Summary}Cavetown has one of the most noticeable vocal maturations I've ever heard. His pre-pubescent voice was light, agile and unsteady, while his adult voice is practically the opposite. His work from 2014 to 2016 demonstrated easy-sounding G4s and competent B4 belts, but also a weak lower register that sometimes produced fry as high as G3. Yet, by January 2018's Lemon Boy, his D3s sounded easy, F4 belts became an event and he could barely get to G4 without shouting. As of 2020, he is hitting B2 or lower in most songs, but raising his low threshold right now would be premature as G2s are still rare and brief. On the other end, his belts top at F♯4, with the exception of the shouted G4 in "Dear", and I think his belts and higher falsetto notes could sound better with some coaching to help him gain confidence up high. Regardless, his voice and music are poignant, profound and sincere no matter what era you look at, and his personal character is endlessly endearing. Compare "Devil Town"'s 2015 (melody: G3 - B♭4), 2017 (melody: D3 to F4), and 2019 (melody: A2 to D4) versions for an idea of his vocal progression. 2017 is somewhat of a grey area between his pre-pubescent and adult voices, more mature than his pre-pubescent voice but still shaky. I settled on putting it in the adult section as he has actually since surpassed his belt and falsetto peaks from that year, so I don't consider work from then misrepresentative of his current ability.

mole55 I don't think Fool is pitch-shifted for a few reasons. Firstly, he sounds like an infant when he pitch-shifts. I don't hear that quality in Fool. Here is a pitch-shifted B♭4-G♯4 (in "rea-lly" and "bu-lly") in Juliet. I think the reason the Fool passage has a different tone is because it uses mixing technique that he normally doesn't access. He might have gotten a little coaching when he went in the studio to record the Lemon Boy album, helping him produce the mix that one time, but left to generally practice alone he is just not confident singing high. I think he plays it safe with his high range to avoid feeling embarrassed and having to start the song over if he doesn't approach a belt right and then this happens. My opinion on his confidence is based on a few things: watching his videos and seeing how self-conscious he is when he makes a mistake or his neighbours ask him to stop singing; the fact that he uses pitch-shifting in harmonies to hit notes well within his capability; and notewatching mxmtoon who similarly avoids belting - it makes sense that singers with makeshift home studios are afraid of bothering their families and neighbours by being too loud.
