By professional recording artists. Let's highlight that. There were similar threads on TRP2 and TRP3 under "The Worst Covers" or something. Since I don't really believe in superlatives when it comes to music considering how inherently subjective music is, but still wanted to relive the thread, I decided to change the title. So yeah, the idea is to post versions of songs that really rub you the wrong way for any particular reason. Just try to explain your reasoning. Here are some of mine:
While I don't have any problems with the arrangement per se and I actually liked some of the touches more in line with Shining's musical style, namely the tremolo picking and the double bass drumming (which were done very subtly and tastefully without really overstaying their welcomes, the vocals on this cover absolutely ruin the track. GFG, what a mess. Instead of Till Lindemann's tasteful baritone vocals, you have Niklas Kvarforth (which doesn't sound really bad when he's doing clean vocals) doing some of the most grating "depressive suicidal black metal" noises (sobbing, yelling, choking, screeching randomly) I ever heard. While I think that kind of vocals actually make sense with actual NSBM music, they simply don't belong in a song like that. Now, these manage to be terribly inapropriate both in the vocals AND arrangement department. While I don't have any claims towards changing the arrangements to reflect the musical style of the covering artist, I feel like some of those songs were absolutely atrocious choices for each artists and the changes in arrangement and style are downright insulting.

Disturbed's Sound of Silence cover is a prime example of a really technically accomplished vocal performance and piece of production, but also one that completely misses the sentiment and the meaning of the lyrics. They turned a haunting folk song into something that belonged in a cheesy superhero movie OST.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I really don't care much for Gary Jules' version of "Mad World". That's not to say that I'm a sucker for the original version, I like it but I see how a more "mellow" version could work very well, I just think Gary Jules does it in an extremely dull way, his voice especially honestly doesn't transmit anything to me.. I don't know, I don't wanna ramble too much, but I think it was a lost opportunity of making a darker, more melancholic version of this song, which is a very good idea when you consider the tone of the lyrics.

On the bright side, bad covers make the original sound that much better.
