To my big shame I never paid for music but as I grew older I started to realise that it's the same kind of cheating and I really should now. But the song that has gotten me into music seriously, was "Paint It, Black" by The Rolling Stones. I lived through high school, uni and first summer job as the song ended.

The first CD I ever owned was Beyoncé “Dangerously In Love” back in 04 or 05. I’ve never bought albums with my own money since then because if I buy an album it’s usually through digital or I just stream it.

First record of any kind, Queen Platinum Collection in, I think, 2005. First LP, Iron Maiden - "The Number of the Beast" in 2006.

The first album I had that was all mine was Untamed by Yankee Grey, a country group that had a song on the radio that I was obsessed with when I was 8 or 9. The first album I actually bought was Master of Puppets a couple of years later.

I want to say Holy Diver by Dio - which was probably the most influental one for me and first record I bought in a while. The real answer is actually 2pac Greatest Hits which I bought during junior high school in my weird rap phase. I did own some Finnish punk rock albums when I was 7-8 years old, but my dad got them for me (he also got me Rhapsodys Legendary Tales a couple of years later - which was kinda influental as well) so I did not pay for them.

I received a few as gifts from family members, but my first bought with my own money was likely Bridge Over Troubled Water. A bit of an obvious choice, but it was cheap, I was young and poor, and the music is high-quality, so I don't regret it.

I started a vinyl collection about a year ago and the first one I bought with my own money, wasn't a present or anything was In The Court of The Crimson King by the band (obviously) King Crimson. The album means so much to me because of that experience.

I'd like to add that the one and only physical single I've ever bought is "Umbrella" by Rihanna, which I got on CD in the summer of 2007 in a record shop in Rhyl. CD singles were in their death-throws even by then. I played it a lot that summer, as it was the big radio single of the year, but pretty much never again after. Not sure if I still have the CD, but probably not. I occasionally still stream the track out of nostalgia.

The first music I ever bought was a random assortment of MP3s for my MP3 player. I don't remember all of them but among them were "Derezzed," "Centuries," and "Titanium." The first album I bought in its entirety was the normal version of the Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack (I still need to get the platinum version on CD).
