So I'm about to put out the Adam Lambert thread, and I haven't found any notes under A2, except for this E2. I'm really on the fence cuz it's solid but it's quite a distance away and it's not as high quality as the rest of his range is.

I wouldn't counted personally, It doesn't really have that strong of a pitch tbh. Quite airy as well.

I'd count it as an italic note. Yes it's slightly underwhelming, but I don't think we would be questioning its inclusion if he had more notes in the F2-G♯2 range to fill the gap between it and his next-lowest.

Actually kinda surprised he still hasn't done anything else below A2 after all these years though  :surprised:

I guess my argument is similar to the one people used against Sinatra's falsetto notes. It's just not up to the standard of his other notes. I don't think Lambert himself would want us to count that as part of his range.

This E♭5 at the start here. When I originally posted my Chris Stapleton thread it seemed like the majority consensus was that it was Chris, though Gilad was arguing that it may have been Ed. Now with the new Bruno Mars thread up, it's being brought into question again, as kaji has brought up the possibility of it being Bruno. He and I seem to be more or less torn between Chris and Bruno, since it does sound very similar tonally to some notes from both singers around the same area. With all this considered, I thought this thread would be a good place to discuss it.

Well if the ginger women is lipsyncing it and she is the female Ed then surely it means he sung the note? Why the producers have Ed's woman lipsync the note if it wasn't him hitting it?

If contributors could post evidence (links) showing why they think it's their suggested singer, it is likely a consensus could be reached more quickly.

I'm not into Bruno Mars, but if someone can come up with a convincing example of a constricted bellow, from Bruno? :), at D5-E5, that might be persuasive. FWIW, I wasn't be persuaded by this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRwU4huYj-U

Chris has this in his arsenal: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCFhhtlliKo - the holler at 16 secs in doesn't sound too far away tonally from the Eb5 in BLOW, more constriction in the BLOW note as it's higher.

But consider this: Bruno probably knows his way around a desk, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch that he has processed both Chris's and Ed's vocals (maybe all 3 of 'em!), perhaps mixed them in some way, and that's why it's proving tough to decide which guy it is...

Not sure how you'd then go about attributing the note to one of the singers, mind.

I don't have any clips for Ed, and I'm less inclined to think it's him anyway with everything that's been brought up here and elsewhere. At this point, I'm almost more convinced that it's Bruno, but I could really go either way.

Thank you for the clips, Gatr and Kaji. Based on these clips, it would seem that the BLOW Eb5 is indeed more likely Bruno, and that is something I did not expect to write!

I hear Chris singing further back in his throat than Bruno does in these clips (Chris has more of an "ah" tone than Bruno's "or") which is what leads me to think it's more likely Bruno for the BLOW note.

Allow me to shuffle the deck a little bit further by pointing out that there is another scream in "BLOW", at 3:06, which is far more likely to be Bruno to my ears as it has the appropriate amount of false cord distortion as showcased by all of the more distorted Bruno clips linked before.

I would argue that the only reason there is any confusion at all about it being Chris is that "BLOW" is mixed markedly differently from Chris' music, and it highlights more of his chainsaw rasp compared to the other clips showcased above (and of course that it's one of his higher notes, I don't think it affects the tone or the way the technique sounds however). From what I'm hearing Bruno's distortion technique does not 'click' with nearly the same amount of intensity as Chris' does.

Well the Eb5 is still up for debate but the scream at 3:06 is definitely Ed to my ears. Firstly it comes right after his singing, and secondly he's got a similar sounding scream that's sampled a couple times in Remember the Name (e.g right at the end of the song). We've never really heard Ed use this hard-rock voice other than here, and just because there aren't instances of him doing it live doesn't mean the man doesn't experiment with his voice in the studio. I don't think it's fair to rule him out because he didn't do the scream during an acoustic performance of the song either.

Edit: Also from what I can tell, the screams that Chris uses tend to be weightier than the ones we hear in BLOW, so if everyone is against contributing the note to Ed I'd give it to Bruno

I can tell why people would say both, but im inclined to say that its an F#5. It has a pretty clear note at the end of the scream which is definitely F#, before the guitar properly kicks in and reaches that higher register which would definitely create illusions if it were to play at the same time.

I can sort of hear it both ways between C♯ and F♯. If I had to pick one I'd probably be more inclined to say F♯ at the moment, but I'm not entirely sold on that tbh.

Sounds like a Questionable Note to me. On the timestamped scream, I was tempted to say C#4 and every note from there on up. I ran it through an online spectrum analyser (https://academo.org/demos/spectrum-analyzer/) and it confirmed what my ears heard, a wash of frequencies in which you could legitimately hear any of the suggested pitches. Screenshot enclosed for reference, you can see the wash of frequencies that appears for the scream.
