That thought has actually struck me as well. Luckily I've already checked through every single recorded performance of that song that's avaliable on YouTube, atleast the ones where he's performing with Heaven & Hell. The highest I found was a C6 and so far that's the highest note we've found for him.

Lastly, I'm still pretty convinced that the "The Mob Rules" live note is an A5, and last I checked a lot of people seemed to agree on that.

The TRP3 version of the thread had this low slide listed as getting down to B2, but I'm a little unsure of whether it's worth counting that low. Definitely at least C3 though, and I'd be open to discussion about counting B2.


One of his early crooner songs here - the line I have timestamped (along with every chorus) gets down to B2s, and then there are also numerous D3s throughout starting at 0:15.


Slide down to a pretty weak low note in this version of "Iron Man" - was previously listed as A2 on TRP3, but I find myself going between A2 and G♯2 for it.

There are a number of other notes that this version of the thread could stand to add as well, but these are probably the most essential ones for now. I'll probably make another post later with some of the rest, but would really like to see these ones get added before I worry about those.

Pretty solid C3 in this version of "Black Sabbath".


The TRP3 version of the thread had this low slide listed as getting down to B2, but I'm a little unsure of whether it's worth counting that low. Definitely at least C3 though, and I'd be open to discussion about counting B2.


One of his early crooner songs here - the line I have timestamped (along with every chorus) gets down to B2s, and then there are also numerous D3s throughout starting at 0:15.


Slide down to a pretty weak low note in this version of "Iron Man" - was previously listed as A2 on TRP3, but I find myself going between A2 and G♯2 for it.

There are a number of other notes that this version of the thread could stand to add as well, but these are probably the most essential ones for now. I'll probably make another post later with some of the rest, but would really like to see these ones get added before I worry about those.

Can these notes please get added to the OP? So far I've only seen the E5s from "What Cost War" get added.

- The "Wild One" B5 is already in the thread, as a B♭5. The tape speed is fast.
- Added the "Black Sabbath" C3, "Mr. Misery" B2s and D3s, and "Children of the Sea" and "The Mob Rules" live E♭5s.

However, there are some notes i'm confused about:
- I'm actually hearing a D5 on the "Die Young" clip. I think Iommi's guitar might be throwing me off.
- The "Gypsy" note sounds halfway between A5 and B♭5.
- Not sure if the "Neon Knights" live F5 should be marked as italics or not.
- Not sure if the "Wild One" live A5s should be marked as blue or black. Also, I think the tape speed is fast.
- Uncertain how low the "Falling Off the Edge of the World" slide goes.
- The "Iron Man" note is pretty weak, not sure if i'd count it.

Anyone want to weigh in on those?

- I'm pretty sure the "Die Young" note is a B♭5, and that's also what Sandblasted had it listed for in the previous version of the thread, but I'll take more opinions on it if you're not convinced. Iommi's guitar is definitely playing a D5 there alright, so it's likely you're getting thrown off by that, cause Dio is not matching his pitch at all.
- I think I hear the "Gypsy" clip very briefly touching on B♭5 now that you mention it, but I think it might be a bit too brief to be worth counting. Leaning towards sticking with A5 as my pitching verdict for it.
- I would say italics for the "Neon Knights" live F5; that's what it was listed for in the previous version of the thread.
- I definitely vote black for the "Wild One" live screams; they're no more falsetto-sounding than the "Lock Up the Wolves" ones. You would know better than me about the tape speed, so I'll trust your judgment on that. However, listening back I think I actually hear the first set of screams getting up to B♭5, which would mean that the correct pitch would still be A5 if the tape speed is a semitone fast.
- I admittedly went back and forth between C3 and B2 as the bottom pitch for the "Falling Off the Edge of the World" slide, so I'd be open to more opinions on that one myself. Sandblasted had it listed as a B2 though.
- Agreed about the "Iron Man" slide being pretty weak, so I'll leave that one up to you as to whether you want to count it or not. More second octave notes would certainly be nice, but this is also admittedly not his best one.

Actually speaking of second octave notes, wasn't there a live version of "Man on the Silver Mountain" that you found that had a vocal improvisation down to B2? That should definitely be added as well.

-Definitely a Bb5, not very controlled though.
-Sounds more like a Bb5 to me.
-Italic seems fair. A rare italic high note that has some control to it.
-Black makes the most sense seeing as green's not used in this OP and that's the only other color I'd entertain for those notes.
-This sounds definitely like a C3 to me.
-It's a G#2 but spoiler material imo.
