Jane's Addiction's very odd yet charismatic frontman, also the founder of the famous alternative festival Lollapalooza. Farrell's voice is just as out there as his "spacey", esoteric personality; a very distinct bright and somewhat raspy tenor with a certain nasality, a make or break factor of his music for some, yet it would be hard to imagine any of it sung by a different voice due to his unique tonality blending perfectly well with the sprawling psychedelic vibes of Jane's Addiction's music. As one would expect, his high range early on was fairly agile and could hit fifth octave notes fairly easily and solidly (such as in "Ocean Size" and "Sadness"), before shifting his tessitura somewhat from the mid 90s onward, instead focusing more on high fourth/low fifth octave belts. Surprisingly, he actually has quite a decent low range which is quite unexpected given the usual brightness of his voice, this can be best heard in tracks such as "Mr. Sunshine" and "Milky Ave", which are by far his "boomiest" performances. Overall, one of the most distinct figures of 90s rock and definitely quite a voice to be experienced, whether you love it or hate it.
