Mark Robert Boals (5 December 1958 -)
Years Active: 1981 - present
Member Of: Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force (1985-86, 1996-2001), Ring of Fire (2001-04, 2014), Raiding the Rock Vault (2015-present), Iron Mask (2010-14), Uli Jon Roth (2008-11) Royal Hunt (2007-11), Genius: A Rock Opera (2002-04), Dramatica (2015-present), Dokken (2014-17), Foundry (2014-present), Dio Disciples (2013-present), Joshua Perahia (2002-present), Ted Nugent (1984)
Vocal Range: F2 - C6 (3 Octaves + 7 Semitones)
{Vocal Summary}
The earliest recording I've found of Boals is from 1984, by which stage he was already 25 and showcasing impressive belts up to F5. On the album Trilogy with Yngwie Malmsteen and its subsequent tour in 1986, he showcased great belting up to F♯5.
The early 1990s is when Boals really started letting his voice off the leash, showcasing an incredible fluidly mixed upper register with frequent demanding passages around the middle of the fifth octave on tracks like 'Don't Lie' and 'No Time To Sleep', and even occasionally mixing as high as A5. Also a go-to weapon in his arsenal were archetypal heavy metal head voice 'screams' similar to Eric Adams or Michael Sweet, showing freakish powers of control and sustain even as high as C6. He also tended to be in top form live, a trend that continued in his second stint with Yngwie Malmsteen, pulling off his demanding back catalogue with aplomb and even adding additional fifth octave notes here, there and everywhere-
With probably a naturally high tessitura even for a tenor, Boals never really opted to access his lower register in his early career, with his first second octave notes of which I'm aware coming in 1999. The B♭2s in 'Time To Say Goodbye' in 2001 sounded then like they were pretty near the bottom of his range. However, with the passage of time his lows have strengthened somewhat (though he still doesn't use them that often), with probably Boals' best showcase of his lower range coming in his 2006 audition demos for Kamelot, in which he displayed pretty strong extended passages of singing down to G2 and even one solid enough F2.
Probably in part because he's spent a lot more time with various projects in the studio than touring extensively live, Boals' voice has stood the test of time really well, especially considering his extremely demanding style. Having basically shown no degradation at all in the first 25+ years of his career, it's only in the last few years that he's even begun to make any adjustments to his performances at all. Even as recently as 2018 he's showcased more incredible blended highs up to A5. He has to be a little more careful accessing the apex of his upper range live, but even in 2019 he's still proven capable of sustaining live belts up to F5 as well as head voice wailing around G-G♯5.
All in all, Boals is a pretty exceptional vocalist, still in high demand for his great technical accomplishment even after all these years

There's also some low stuff in the backing vocals of 'Tempus Fugit', but even though Boals is the only vocalist credited on the track, it doesn't really sound like him at all.

[1] marks yelps and short trills in high range or anacrusis and short dips in low range.
(a.) The main note here is the F5 listed in the thread, but the vibrato may briefly trill up to this pitch.
[2] marks notes of questionable identity that cannot be confirmed to be the singer in question.
(a.) These notes may be sung by Brent Woods, who did backing vocals on this album. They all also sound quite heavily processed and not much like Boals' usual tone.
[3] marks non-melodic notes that don't have a significant enough pitch to warrant inclusion.
(a.) This was listed as a D2 and Boals' lowest note in his original 'Jowox' video; there's been some debate over whether or not it's a D2 or an E♭2, but either way doesn't really hold a 'significant' pitch.
[4] marks notes that possess uncertain pitch or have been pitch-shifted.
(a.) May be just an implied harmony.
[5] marks notes that do not fit the previous criteria but are not of a substantial enough quality to warrant counting towards the singer's range.
G5 ("Another Way" Independence Day Livestream 2020 [1a])
E5 ("The True Beginning: Standing As One" [2])
C5 ("The Star-Spangled Banner" Foundry acapella version [2])
B4 ("You Were There" [1])
C3 ("Divide and Reign" [2])
B2 ("Chasing the Dream" [1])
B♭2 ("The First Rock" [2])
G♯2 ("Kringeworthy" [2a], "Without You" Acoustic version [2])
G2 ("Episode X (Arrival)" [3] "Hostile Breed" (at 2:31) [2], "Poker Face" [2][4a])
F♯2 ("Antidote" [2a], "God Punishes, I Kill" [2], "Without You" Acoustic version [2][4a])
F2 ("Kringeworthy" [2a])
E2 ("Banished From My Kingdom" [2a])
D2 ("Dreamer" [3a])
There's also some low stuff in the backing vocals of 'Tempus Fugit', but even though Boals is the only vocalist credited on the track, it doesn't really sound like him at all.
.......................................................
[1] marks yelps and short trills in high range or anacrusis and short dips in low range.
(a.) The main note here is the F5 listed in the thread, but the vibrato may briefly trill up to this pitch.

Maybe the ultimate journeyman vocalist in heavy metal, Mark Boals' associated acts list would almost require a thread of its own. Perhaps best-known for being the lead vocalist in two separate stints with Yngwie Malmsteen, Boals has also fronted acts including Ring of Fire, Iron Mask, Foundry and Uli Jon Roth, alongside any number of collaborations, one-off appearances and guest contributions with other artists. Boals has also recorded and toured as a solo artist, and continues to appear with tribute acts such as Dio Disciples and, most recently, Raiding the Rock Vault, a Las Vegas-based classic rock stage show. In addition to vocals, he has also played bass with acts including Ted Nugent and Dokken, and has contributed guitar, keys and saxophone on occasion with various projects.
