Kayla Dixon brings an uncharacteristically large amount of soul and vocal power into heavy music. With a multi-pronged career including training and performances in theatre, dance, film, metal, and vocal coaching, it's hard to think of a more diversely talented musician in the genre. In her work with doom metal cult act Witch Mountain, she tends to focus on a storytelling approach that includes intricate melismas, resonant chest voice belting, false cord screams, and a tremendous use of dynamics. This is also true for her singing in Dress the Dead, but she also incorporates a lot of rock rasp and a more immediate, hook-based approach in that group that is fitting for their more hard rock influenced sound. Keep an eye out for Kayla in the upcoming years, because she is truly a force to be reckoned with on numerous fronts.

I did a proper update of this thread over the last few days, she's really expanded her low range in the last few years! I got to see her live with Witch Mountain last week and it was a terrific show, it was a small venue and I was in the front row so it was like having the band play in my living room or something lol. She's just as amazing vocally in person as on the studio lemme tell ya, definitely one of the best vocal performances I've seen in person. I'm also excited to hear what she's gonna do with her new role in Vintersea, since I think her style will fit prog metal really well.
