{Vocal Summary}Among the most well-known voices of the late 20th century, Steve Perry is a staple within classic rock. Inspired by the likes of Sam Cooke, Perry is best known for his extremely flexible upper register, with impressive ease in belting throughout the upper fourth and lower fifth octaves. Above this, he blends into a head voice which, although comparably underused, is very agile in its own right, able to navigate up to the sixth octave nearly effortlessly. His lower range in comparison is infamously underdeveloped and the least utilised area of his voice, becoming rather airy and cumbersome as early as the mid-third octave. Despite this, the technical strengths of Perry's voice and the emotion that he is able to convey in his singing are things that listeners admire to this day, and as such have long since been able to cement him as one of the best singers of all time.
