Salvatore Marrano
Vocal Range: E2 - E5
Member Of: Hello Eden (?-2009), Thank You Scientist (2009-2023)
{Vocal Summary}Best known as the frontman for New Jersey progressive rock ensemble Thank You Scientist, Sal Marrano was something of the odd man out in the band's early years, his smooth tenor vocals and pop-influenced sense of melody forming a notable contrast to the virtuosic, jazzy playing of his bandmates. A naturally high-placed singer, he has a particularly bright tone (often compared to Coheed and Cambria's Claudio Sanchez) that makes many of his upper fourth octave belts sound higher than they are, though in recent years he has introduced a more chest-based tone to his belting that gives his climactic notes a more distinct sound. Though he tends to stick to his upper third to fourth octave comfort zone in lead vocals, he often adds numerous subtle layers of backing vocals that fit right in with Thank You Scientist's complex, layered style. Said backing vocals often feature his otherwise seldom-used lower range, where his lack of strength and projection below B2 isn't as much of an issue as it would be if it were front and center. His falsetto likewise comes into use most commonly in backing vocals, and interestingly enough hasn't been used to extend much higher than his belting. Though some may see him as a weak link, Marrano is a solid vocalist with a keen understanding of where his voice best shines and he worked as an excellent complement to his band's more self-indulgent instincts. While he may have retired from the band in September 2023 to be with his family, he's left behind a powerful catalog of work and some very big shoes to fill
