{Vocals & About}
Glyn Geoffrey Ellis (28 October 1945 – 6 August 2020)
Years Active: 1963-2020
Associated Acts: Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders (Members Of: 1963-1965)
Wayne Fontana is one of the few breakout acts during the renowned British Invasion into the American charts of popular music. His initial bandmates failed to show up for the audition, and he quickly teamed up with fellas at the bar where it was set to occur, calling themselves “Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders”, as the story goes, they got signed to Fontana Records that same day (no relation). Possessing a sweet and tender head voice that rarely dips down on to the significant low notes and often singing in his well armed midrange that spans about an octave. The man starts to breathe away at around E3 and does really have to put effort and weight to round out notes below that mark, his upper chest though, as it often goes, caps at about G4. His mix is very strong and can reach the lower fifth octave with a notable power and his falsetto is very soft and silky, leaving no room for doubting that it’s his natural habitat.
Sadly passed away earlier in this year, with lots of self-written and vocally unmatched songs to his name. His career wasn’t always sunny and warm but he had managed to advance in this uneasy business and score an ocean of fans around the world. Overall, he was an excellent singer, all things considered. He was a gigantic vocal master, very underappreciated at it, as well as he was a capable songwriter, with melodies still haunting those who were lucky enough to hear it at the time of its release. Later in his life he continued touring in the nostalgic tours across the UK. Remarkably, he’d once had a tooth on the law when he set on fire a car of a bailiff near the courthouse where he was ordered to appear, all while being dressed as ‘Lady Justice’ (see pic. below). But his memory remains and will continue to live on for all those who were able to hear music in tracks that had no relation to the Beatles and the top five of his vocal performances, be thy proof (see The Best Vocal Deliveries).
