{Description}Canadian singer/songwriter/producer Robert Alfons, most known as the singer, songwriter and producer of music project TR/ST, possesses a singing voice unlike any other I've ever heard: heavily slurred, brooding and low placed, with a similarly nasal but powerful, ethereal sounding falsetto register that consumes pretty much his entire upper range. It's a paradoxical voice; sludgy but filled with conviction, grimy yet gorgeous, capable of a staggeringly dark or a light, androgynous timbre.
Most commonly using his lower register, Alfons hits notes down to the middle 2nd octave with striking comfort, often performing entire verses within the E2/F2 range only. He remains within what sounds like his comfort zone on all of his songs, with his vocals beyond D4 being almost exclusively head voice, despite sustaining said chest voice D4s quite well on various songs, indicating an average baritone vocal placement. Regarding his head voice, it's most often used among the upper 4th octave, at times into the lower 5th. Even on lower 4th octave notes, it sounds rather strong, perhaps indicating a chest/head mix. These three facets of his voice are showcased pretty evenly in his music, making for songs that can span nearly 3 octaves. Oh, and as the cherry on top of the sundae, his speaking voice sounds absolutely nothing his singing voice. In any way. Overall, one of the most attention catching, unique and human sounding voices in the world of cold, glossy synthesizer led music.
