Not hearing any G1s in the timestamp you linked for "Simply Jazz" - just a lot of A1s. Those notes are better than I remembered though; I could actually get on board with counting them as black notes, cause they're not too different from the type of approach someone like Billy Gibbons takes to his first octave notes (just more breathy). Listening through the whole passage, I'm also not really any point where he audibly switches into another register or anything for the A1s.

Could I get a link to the other G1s? This is the first I'm ever hearing of him having other notes below B♭1 besides those "Simply Jazz" ones.

Okay, for the note you pointed out in "Simply Jazz" on "it's the sweet taste of JAZZ", I think I actually am hearing G♯1 now that you point it out. The one on "all that sweet, delicious JAZZ" still sounds like an A1 to me though.

Nice find with those lows in "Pat Riley"! Definitely one of his stronger displays of that side of his voice as well. I'm hearing G♯1 on the lowest note there as well.

The note in "Chad Gadya" sounds countable to me, but I'm only getting B♭1 for that one.

so, what I'm hearing:
"Pat Riley" doesn't actually sound like it genuinely hits G1, I don't think there's really much tone there when he goes below C#2, and that the "G1" is primarily an A1 with very little tone
"Chad Gadya" is only around A1/Bb1, but it's mostly a breathy trail-down that imo isn't really much of anything
"Simply Jazz" does hit G1, but it's nowhere near as strong or carrying as much tone as the A1s and I'd probably be iffy about counting it myself

also that Bb5 isn't really much of anything either

Big fan of JB, but that 'Bb5' note is pretty dire, seems well off pitch, but let's call it Bb for brevity. Sounds like a Bb4 fundamental pitch to me, the scream likely giving it plenty of first overtone (second harmonic) but I can't really hear the Bb5 that well with all the noise around it. Still recovering from illness so my ears may be dodgy, but if someone can stick a spectrum analyser on that scream it might give a better idea of what's really going on.
