{Vocal Summary}As frontwoman for Houston "New Southern Gothic" metal act Oceans of Slumber, Cammie Beverly's distinctively silky-smooth vocal stylings have become one of the largest factors separating the band from their peers. As a relatively low-placed singer, she tended to focus largely on her strong, warm-sounding lower range in her early work with the band, fitting in well with Oceans of Slumber's downtuned riffs but seldom leading any major dynamic changes. However, subsequent albums saw her utilize far more facets of her voice than before, improving her high belting register enough to drive multiple emotional climaxes. Still, she remains a notably tasteful vocalist who tends to impress with tight control and soulful, buttery tone over any excessive showcases of vocal range. A great singer and, with her feature as one of the leads on Ayreon's Transitus, one whose music is continuing to reach more new audiences.
