I'd like some extra opinions on these notes. Bowie's range expansion in the past has been difficult for me to wrap my head around. Given his capacity to create overtones (ie "Lady Grinning Soul", which still isn't straightforward for everybody) it seems like something similar might be happening here, but I can't say for sure whether I think that is or isn't the case. Of course! No problem. I just discovered them so they are new to me,too. I've been listening to a lot of Bootlegs from the Diamond Dogs tour. I posted them because I wanted to hear some thoughts or opinion about the G5(?) and the D6's.

I've been increasingly thinking that the way he comes down from that B5 (which I think goes up to C♯, by the way) to around E4 seems like a sign that it might be mad overtones. The same could be the case here. I dont think I can follow you lol. To which note do you refer to? To the high note at the end of "Sweet thing reprise" or "Somebody up there likes me" ?

those D6s definitely aren't overtones, but are you sure those are actually Bowie?

those D6s definitely aren't overtones, but are you sure those are actually Bowie? I am pretty sure actually. Especially if you compare it to the other high notes he did on the same show. They sound exactly like that. Not only on that show but during the entire tour. Plus you cant hear his "normal voice" in the backround but all of his backup singers. Just compare the end of "Reprise"at 19:00 with the D6's. Here is another example : youtu.be/QNxFM00sj54It starts at 04:37 And here with some better sound: youtu.be/qa-0hAmt55804:09

No, I agree, the notes are definitely Bowie. What I'm saying is that the B5 in "All the Young Dudes" seems like it could be overtones from a B4, and that B5 sounds similar to the D6s in "Somebody Up There Likes Me". This makes me think either they're both overtones or neither are. Ah okey sorry my bad. I wasn't exactly sure what you referred to.

D6 sounds pretty solid. Didn't know he had that in him.

Agreed that the B5 is a bit suspicious. It definitely makes more sense if that was a B4. But I can't argue against the D6 - that stuff sounds rock solid.

Not to nitpick, but the C6 on "It's Gonna Be Me" happens at 4:10 but the timestamp link goes to 4:37

In addition to the E4s already listed, there's F4s in "Lazarus":

Anyone else catch the E♭6(!) at 1:30:23 in that same concert audio from Anaheim 1974? I did. But this one is very difficult to rate. Even I have to admit that lol. You are talking about the High note at the End of Rock'n Roll Suicide, right? Its the same show where he has been hitting the D6's in "Somebody up there likes me".

I checked out the Eb6 thinking it was gonna be some bullshit, but I actually think it's legit. I'm pretty sure that's Bowie going ape with his falsetto. Is it really an E6 ???? I think its not easy to rate since the sound isnt that good.
