Minami (美波) (14 September 1997 - Present)
Vocal Range: D3 - A5
{Vocal Summary}Minami (surname unknown) is a somewhat enigmatic Japanese singer-songwriter who burst onto the scene with "Crying for Rain", a song that became known as perhaps the finest modern example of an anime opening that is far, far better than the show it is attached to. This was in large part due to Minami's distinctive vocal style, characterized by a raw, powerful belting register that she contrasts with a breathy, vulnerable softer side. And I mean "breathy" in multiple senses- perhaps Minami's signature trait as a singer is her intentional embrace of the sharp, audible inhalation as a way of punctuating phrases, lending her vocals a desperate quality, as if periodically gasping for air. Though her vocal technique is far from orthodox, and her live performances are somewhat inconsistent, the power of her searingly emotional upper range combined with her excellent songwriting chops have made her a promising new talent with multiple bangers already under her belt.
