My impression of him is that he's not the best singer, but a really good rapper and obviously an amazing composer. Though admittedly I haven't heard a ton of his actual singing.


Here's a really awkward performance of "Gethsemane (I Only Want to Say)" from Jesus Christ Superstar with him as Jesus, from way back when he was in college. He was clearly trying his best, but man his voice was really not the most expressive or developed at the time, and his higher singing sounds uhhh rather strained to say the least. He doesn't even attempt to go for any of the fifth octave notes and just settles for hitting some shouty stuff in the G4 range instead. But still, somewhere around C3-G♯4 in this performance, with some possible A♯2s at a couple points. Also hearing some F♯4s and G4s that are probably worth listing at other points.

Yeah, he's more of a rapper than a singer. His voice isn't the best, especially before 2016 in stuff like Hamilton. His impressive moments come from his rapping much more than his singing, although his voice had definitely improved in Mary Poppins Returns.

Yeah I didn't even realize the clip I linked was already listed because I tried searching for "Gethsemane" and didn't see anything. My only suggestion would be to list the G♯4 as a sung note, cause it's part of the melody that just about every singer that performs that song follows in that section.

Just watched Vivo for the first time the other night, and damn - seems like his singing and range seems to have gotten quite a bit better in recent years! I was impressed by the number of easy/solid notes in the mid and even occasional upper fourth octave that I heard him hit in that role. Looks like you already notewatched most of it, but I found a couple songs that you missed that have some good notes.


I see you already have most of the notes from this one listed, but you missed a solid B4 here! Lots of E4s throughout as well if you wanna list those, though I don't hear where the D3 you have listed is.

I think the last song in the JCS musical was originally called Jesus Christ Superstar? Murray Head's version (1969) came earlier than the musical. I might be wrong though.
