Roger Meddows Taylor (26 July 1949 - present)
Member Of: Smile (1968 - 1970), Queen (1970 - present), The Cross (1987 - 1993)
Vocal Range: E2 - B5
{Vocal Summary}One could make a strong argument that, for much of the 1970s, the best singer in Queen was not their frontman, but in fact, their drummer. While Roger Taylor predominantly sang backing vocals for the band (only getting one lead vocal per album throughout most of this period), he managed to find numerous ways to capture the listener's attention, either with his powerful lead vocal chops that were always chock-full of healthy grit, or through his surprisingly effeminate high harmony singing that pierced through the band's mixes like a knife (I refer you to the climactic high note in "Bohemian Rhapsody", or the intros to "My Fairy King" and "In the Lap of the Gods"). Taylor's voice fell into a sort of slow decline after the '70s, and unfortunately, his singing on his solo records doesn't have near the energy of his early work with Queen. Regardless, when he was in his prime, he was as good a singer as Freddie Mercury ever was, and that has to count for something.
