Summary:
Vic Fuentes is most well known as the lead vocalist and one of two guitarists in the band Pierce the Veil, one of the best known acts in the post-hardcore and emo scenes. While at high school he played in his first band, 3 Simple Words, a group that would be succeeded by Early Times, a band formed in 1998 who would later change their name to Before Today for legal reasons. In 2004 they released their only album, A Celebration of an Ending. Two years later they broke up, and Pierce the Veil was formed the same year by Vic and his brother Mike. They would go on to record their first album A Flair for the Dramatic as a duo and then bring in bassist Jaime Preciado and guitarist Tony Perry. A few albums later as a quartet, and they are arguably one of the most popular post-hardcore bands of the scene.
Vic uses his high range prominently throughout his discography, most often going up to around the lowest reaches of the fifth octave in chest, with "clean" chest notes above that being very rare. The majority of the time when he goes any higher into the fifth octave, it will be when he is using a heavy amount of distortion, though such notes are still somewhat rare, just somewhat more common than him singing in "clean" chest up that high. He also has shown a pleasant, albeit rarely heard, falsetto register. His lower range is, while plenty strong enough for his placement, severely underused. Notes down to around D3 are rare enough, with anything below that being extremely scarce. Pierce the Veil have had a clear, lasting impact on the post-hardcore and emo scenes, and have influenced many since their formation. They are a formidable musical presence that will hopefully be felt for a long while to come.
