Virginia Patterson Hensley (8 September 1932 - 5 March 1963)
Vocal Range: D3 - B♭5
{Vocal Summary}To say that the warmth and expressiveness of Patsy Cline's voice single-handedly changed the face of country music is not much of an exaggeration, if it's one at all. In addition to being one of the first strong female performers in a genre frothing with male dominance, the richness of her singing was an anomaly at the time. Cline's technique could have fit well into the popular vocal pop music of the day (if not necessarily her unmistakably Southern phrasing), and in fact, it was her unique voice that helped her gain popularity in the popular music scene before her untimely death at age 30. Her distinctive twang coupled with a strong low register and wailing, almost yodelling highs set a gold standard that country vocalists of both genders still strive to reach today.
